The history of the family business Mac Baren Tobacco Company A / S, producing the Mac Baren little cigars, goes back to 1887. Harald Halberg founded the Harald Halberg cigar tobacco factory in Svendborg, Denmark that year. The sons Otto and Einar Halberg took over the company after the father’s death and continued to operate it as Harald Halberg tobacco factories. Einar Halberg’s son, Jørgen Halberg, developed the world-famous Mac Baren pipe tobacco in the 1950s and introduced it to the Danish market.
The company was renamed tj Mac Baren Tobacco Company A / S in 1995 due to the worldwide success of Mac Baren pipe tobacco as well as Mac Baren little cigars. Henrik Halberg, the son of Jørgen Halberg, today heads the Danish company, which is one of the largest family-run tobacco companies in Scandinavia. Mac Baren Tobacco Company A / S is one of the world’s leading pipe tobacco manufacturers. The company’s own brands are exported to over 70 countries. The tobacco factory also produces for some of the largest international pipe tobacco companies. Mac Baren Tobacco Company A / S employs around 140 people.
